CHRISTIE JEWETT

Design Principal COAR Design Group

Christie Jewett, Design Principal, COAR Design Group, joined Jeff Katz Architecture (now COAR Design Group) in 2010 and was elevated to Principal in 2020. The firm is known for its focus on community and specializes in projects ranging from public safety and community centers to animal care and aquatics facilities. Jewett's ability to lead public workshops, present design ideas, and most importantly be a good listener have been invaluable in ensuring the success of COAR's projects.

Jewett has established herself as a nationally recognized expert in fire station design. She has a passion for creating safe, healthy and efficient fire stations for agencies throughout California. Her involvement in establishing best practices for fire station design has made COAR a well-respected leader in the public safety community. MARIA MARTINICO

Workplace Practice Leader SmithGroup

Maria Martinico, Workplace Practice Leader for SmithGroup in Los Angeles, Orange County and San Diego, has over three decades of experience embedded in the design and project delivery of commercial and workplace projects. As a principal of one of the nation's leading architectural, engineering and design firms, she is responsible for overseeing the operations, design and implementation for commercial projects across central and Southern California. In her role, she utilizes her leadership skills to bring the project team together and determine the viability of creating customized spaces, carefully curated to exceed client expectations.

Martinico earned a Bachelor of Science in Interior Design at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo and has a Master of Business Administration Degree from Chapman University. She has a wealth of knowledge regarding the interconnectivity between business and design. Martinico is an active member of leading industry organizations, including the International Interior Design Association (IIDA), U.S. Green Building Council and CoreNet Global.

JESSICA KING

Vice President of Branding and Placemaking Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc.

Jessica King is Vice President of Branding and Placemaking for Alexandria Real Estate Equities, Inc., an urban office REIT focused on collaborative life science and technology campuses in AAA innovation cluster locations. At Alexandria, she has been instrumental in the development of over 12 million square feet of state-of-the-art, differentiated office/laboratory and hospitality spaces. As a dedicated national design resource for the company, King provides the overarching vision for the development of campus placemaking strategies, oversees and champions human-centered design, and leads the conceptualization of public spaces and interior design across the company's portfolio, which includes Class A properties in major cities nationwide. King is a member of ULI (Urban Land Institute), CREW (Commercial Real Estate Women), and NAIOP (Commercial Real Estate Development Association). She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Applied Arts and Sciences, summa cum laude, with an Interior Design emphasis from San Diego State University.

KARA MATTHIES

Studio Manager, Interior Architecture & Design Ware Malcomb

Kara Matthies, Studio Manager, Interior Architecture & Design at Ware Malcomb, was recently promoted to her position. She is an accomplished and respected leader who graduated with a Bachelor of Interior Architecture from the University of Oregon. After joining Ware Malcomb in 2016 as a designer, she quickly worked her way up through multiple roles.

Matthies is an NCIDQ certified interior designer who has managed all aspects of project design, including programming, space planning, schematic design, design development, consultant coordination and contract administration. She has managed the accounts for some of San Diego's largest commercial landlords. She is involved in the San Diego chapter of NAIOP as an elected Developing Leaders board member. A mentee the last four years in Ware Malcomb's mentorship program, she is now becoming a mentor for aspiring architects and designers. Matthies has been an active participant in Ware Malcomb's philanthropic efforts, including the Baja Challenge, PCRF fundraisers and the NAIOP 5K walk.

JENNETTE LA QUIRE

AIA, LEED AP IC+C National Pre-K-12 Sector Leader and Principal HED

Jennette La Quire is National Pre-K-12 Sector Leader and Principal at HED. She oversees educational facility projects in HED's San Diego office and has made a lifetime commitment to creating a positive impact for school districts, students and faculty. As a leader of the Pre-K-12 sector at the national level, she works day to day with partners in the design and construction community to create tangible change in schools. She has cultivated a dynamic team and provides mentorship and guidance which has resulted in high performance and a renewed office culture. She also helps to shape the larger Pre-K-12 sector by sharing best practices with her intimate understanding of state regulatory agency requirements. She is so much more than an architect: she is a strategic planning partner to her clients. In addition to her practice, she serves as Adjunct Professor San Diego State University. AMBER MAUER

Business Development Director Miller Hull

Amber Mauer is the Business Development Director at Miller Hull. She has over 20 years of experience in the business development of architecture firms, a passion that has stemmed from her desire to impact positive change in the world. She has built a reputation for developing long-term relationships with visionary clients, leading Miller Hull into new market sectors. In her decade at Miller Hull, she has connected the firm to clients such as the University of California, San Diego, San Diego Community College District, and the San Diego Zoological Society.

Mauer is a strategic problem solver, committed to understanding a client's needs and challenges, while also determining how Miller Hull's collaborative design process can enhance their vision. For the last seven years, Mauer has been focused on building the San Diego studio's revenue and business opportunities and is now turning her eye towards expanding the firm's portfolio into other geographic regions.

CHRISTINA MANNION

Studio Manager, Architecture Ware Malcomb

Christina Mannion, Studio Manager, Architecture, in the San Diego (Sorrento Valley) office at Ware Malcomb, has been a trusted adviser and advocate of the industry as an architect, representative, designer, practitioner, planner, administrator, facilitator and leader since 1995. At Ware Malcomb, she leads the growth and management of the San Diego Architecture and Science & Technology Studios.

Most recently, Mannion worked as Principal Architect for UC San Diego, bringing several regional projects out of the ground, including the extension of San Diego's Blue Line trolley to campus and the overall master plan vision for the campus' future. Mannion holds a BA in Sociology/City Planning from UC Santa Cruz and a Master of Architecture from NewSchool of Architecture & Design, where she graduated valedictorian. CATHERINE MCCULLOUGH CPSM President/CEO/CMO McCullough Landscape Architecture

Catherine McCullough, CPSM, serves as President/CEO/CMO of McCullough Landscape Architecture. Her current responsibilities include all marketing and business development efforts as well as financial management and operations. When she became President and CEO in 2002, the State of California recognized the firm as a woman-owned Small Business Enterprise (SBE). Prior to that, McCullough served as Marketing Director for the Westfield Corporation's San Diego super-regional shopping center, UTC.

McCullough is a Past President of the San Diego Chapter of the Society for Marketing Professional Services (SMPS), where she is a Certified Professional Services Marketer (CPSM). She also serves as Director of Marketing and Communications for the San Diego Chapter of Commercial Real Estate Women (CREW). McCullough continues her role as Chapter President of the San Diego Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) Alumni Association and Neighborhood Coordinator for the North Park community of Morley Field.
