Malaina Gusmann is Director of Patient Access at Rady Children’s Hospital, San Diego. She is responsible for the administration and direction of various front-end revenue cycle processes, including registration data collection and accuracy, financial counseling and charity care assignment, inpatient and outpatient authorizations, patient billing, and patient access training initiatives.

Gusmann was instrumental in launching the Patient Access Representative Career Pathway Program at Rady Children’s. This hands-on and interactive training program is available to current employees interested in a career in Patient Access. She also worked with legal, compliance and leaders of patient-facing departments to implement workflows surrounding the “No Surprises Act” and “Good Faith Estimates” to improve patient access and experience.

Gusmann’s leadership earned her a “Leader of Excellence” nomination. She has been a group leader and mentor for students in Rady Children’s Summer Medical Academy, for high school students interested in a healthcare career.
